Ice Skating Australia announces Nominations to Asian Winter Games


8th Asian Winter Games ~ Sapporo, Japan * 22 Feb 2017 to 26 Feb 2017

 

Ice Skating Australia are pleased to advise the skating community that the AOC have confirmed the following nominations of our athletes to Asian Winter Games 2017.

The 8th Asian Winter Games (AWG) will be held in 2017 in the Japanese cities of Sapporo and Obihiro. The Games are an international multi-sport event run by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to develop winter sports within its area of coverage. The OCA has 45 member countries and regions in Asia.The 1st Asian Winter Games, held in Sapporo in 1986, were small in scale and attended only by representatives from East Asian regions where winter sports were already relatively well known. Today, the Games have developed into a large-scale sporting meet attended by athletes from countries and regions across Asia, and have produced significant results toward achieving the OCA’s goal of developing winter sports in Asia.The 8th Asian Winter Games are also expected to attract athletes from many countries and regions as well as showcasing exciting contests among these Asian representatives.

The AWG will feature 5 sports and 11 disciplines: Skiiing, Skating, Biathlon, Ice Hockey and Curling.
