Australian skaters are making their mark on the international scene! With 3 dance teams making their ISU international debut at Andorra (Nov 20th), it is proving to be an exciting time for the development of figure skating in Australia, with the largest Australian ice dance contingent ever fielded at an international event.

There were further celebrations for this outing with 2 teams ~ Adele Morrison and Demid Rokachev, and Matilda Friend and William Badaoui attaining the qualifying scores for next year's Four Continents Championships for the first time. Junior team, Courtney Tyerman and Beau McElroy, attained the TES for junior worlds in SD, and Tiffany Miller and Jake Meyer competed admirably for their first international.

both celebrated attaining podium places this month at the Volvo Open Cup 31st in Riga, Latvia.

Kailani's BRONZE medal included reaching a PB in her short program, scoring  54.14 points and a great start to the season.

Holly sat in 3rd after her short, presenting a beautifully scored L4 Step Sequence.  After some close scoring in the free skate, she took the SILVER overall.

Well deserved for two very hard working skaters!

The ISU Development Program was established in 1996 as an essential tool for the promotion and development of the ISU sports. It is the ISU’s global initiative to improve the skating activities of ISU Members in a sustainable way ~

- To increase the numbers and improve the quality of Skaters, Coaches, and Officials engaged in competitive international Figure Skating and Speed Skating.

- To increase the number of ISU Members able to develop Skaters who are competitive at the international level, both at the highest level and at the level of qualifying for ISU Events and ISU disciplines at the Olympic Winter Games.

Kailani Craine, Peter Lynch
Kailani Craine, award recipient, congratulated by the ISA President, Peter Lynch.

Membership into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame is limited exclusively to the top echelon of athletes, and ISA is proud to announce the nomination of Senior Ladies champion, Kailani Craine as a recipient of the first scholarship award to a figure skating athlete.

In 2006 the SAHOF Board introduced ‘The Scholarship and Mentoring Program’ seeking to excite the next generation of young Australians to achieve their potential in both sport and life. This program aims to help young Australians to reach the highest level of their sport by providing financial funding and more importantly, unrivalled access to mentoring by Sport Australia Hall of Fame Members. Additionally, each successful scholarship holder is provided an international air fare, compliments of Etihad Airways to further their international and training experience.

Kailani receives a $5,000 award and is proud to be mentored by beach volleyball legend, Kerri Pottharst.

Please join us in congratulating Kailani on this superb achievement!

The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Induction & Awards Gala Dinner at the Palladium at Crown Melbourne took place Thursday evening.

The event was attended by ISA President, Peter Lynch, members of our own ISA Hall of Fame, Robyn Burley and Cameron Medhurst, and accompanied by ISA board members, Carole Ashworth and Wendy Meik, ISV representative Sharon Hedley, Belinda Noonan, Katherine Firkin, and Geoff and Gweneth Henke.

Junior Grand Prix Final Potential!

The final results and points standing were published immediately after the completion of the last JGP in Dresden, showing Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya and Harley Windsor sitting in 7th place, and first of three substitute teams for the final in Marseille, France from December 8-11.
The ISU have now confirmed this Aussie Pairs team as first substitutes for the final! Certainly it would be a fabulous opportunity and we wish them well should it arise.
Alexandrovskaya and Windsor also made their senior debut at the 2016 CS Finlandia Trophy. They finished sixth and obtained the minimum technical scores to compete at senior-level ISU Championships.

JGP Pairs

A history making achievement for this eight-month old pair team, Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya and Harley Windsor, having achieved so much already in their short time together. Although hailing from opposite sides of the earth, this pairing was meant to be.
Their performance at the end of August at ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Ostrava CZE already had the hallmarks of a wonderful team in the making, with commentator Ted Barton earmarking their great potential.

With confidence buoyed and a 'give it their all' attitude, they created history for Australia by earning the very first JGP medal, taking the podium in first place and being crowned  pairs champions at the Junior Grand Prix (JGP) in Tallinn, Estonia.

The skating world is sitting up and taking notice.

They are well supported by their families, but also by their coaches, Galina and Andrei Pachin, whose commitment to Harley and his skating talent has resulted in this wonderful pairs team!

Wishing them fabulous skating ahead and similar achievements in the future!

"This team has a very bright future!" ~ Ted Barton

Aussie Skaters ~ Early Season!

Holly Harris

Broadmoor Open in Colorado Springs, USA ~ June 27th

Australian Novice Ladies Champion Holly Harris fought back from a disappointing 10th place in the Junior Ladies Short Program to deliver a spectacular Free Program and finish in 4th place overall at the Broadmoor Open in Colorado Springs, USA on the weekend.

The USFS event, which draws competitors from across USA and international competitors acts as a benchmark for US skaters who are vying for entries into the ISU Junior Grand Prix.

Following a flawless five-minute warm up, Holly skated first in the Short Program but it was not the performance she was looking for with misses on the opening triple salchow and falling off the take-off edge on the triple loop.

“There was a lengthy delay before calling her name. Her focus shifted to what was happening on the judges’ panel rather than on what she had to do, but she learned a valuable lesson,” said coach Christy Krall.

Brendan Kerry

Selected for Skate America, October 2016

Great news for Australian Men's Champion Brendan Kerry on July 1st, after he was selected to compete in Skate America ~ the first of the six ISU Grand Prix series.

There is potential for Brendan to receive second assignment as the series gets going. Let's keep our fingers crossed for him.

Brendan, an OWIA athlete, trains in Los Angeles with Tammy Gambill. His choreographer is Canadian, Mark Pillay.
